About
A notebook, not a guide. Nothing here has been checked by anyone qualified.
Why write it down
Because I kept working out the same arithmetic on the same beach and forgetting it again by the next spring tide. A paper notebook went into the sea in 2023, which settled the question of whether to keep a copy somewhere drier.
The entries are irregular by design. There are stretches of several months with nothing in them, usually because the water was fine and there was nothing to work out.
What this is not
- Not safety advice
- Cold water kills people who are fitter and more experienced than I am. Every number here is a rough approximation and several are probably wrong for your stretch of coast.
- Not a local tide table
- Use the official predictions for your port. The arithmetic on the tides page is for deciding, not for navigating.
- Not a community
- No comments, no forum, no mailing list. If something here is wrong I would rather you simply believed the tide table instead.
